About the project
AlkoTest (alkotest.sk) is an online blood alcohol calculator for Slovakia, where zero tolerance of 0.0 ‰ applies to drivers. The calculation is based on the Widmark equation. From weight, sex, food and drinks it shows the current level, an elimination chart and the time until 0.0 ‰. Nothing you enter leaves your browser.
The site also has a catalogue of breathalysers with filters by sensor type and price. Each offer shows the device type, availability and price. The section Limity v krajinách (Limits by country) lists drink driving limits for 36 countries. An English version of the calculator is available.
The Návody (Guides) section has practical articles on the law, alcohol elimination, tables for beer, wine and spirits, choosing a tester and its calibration. The calculations are indicative and are not proof of fitness to drive. For companies and partners, a calculator for their own website is available free of charge.

In Slovakia, zero tolerance applies to drivers, that is 0.0 ‰. From 1.0 ‰ it is a criminal offence.
How accurate is the AlkoTest calculator?
It is an estimate based on the Widmark equation and can differ by a few tenths of a promille. It does not account for health, medication or the exact absorption rate, and it is not proof of fitness to drive.
How much alcohol does the body eliminate per hour, according to AlkoTest?
About 0.10 to 0.20 ‰, on average 0.15 ‰ per hour. The rate cannot be increased by coffee or a shower.
Which breathalyser does AlkoTest recommend?
A semiconductor one is enough for occasional use, an electrochemical one for regular use. You can compare offers in the breathalyser catalogue.
